Apple II Power Supplies
My Apple II had a IIe power supply that was swapped
in, when the original failed. I replaced the IIe supply with
one from a II plus that has much more the look and feel of the original.
I purchased an old plus off of eBay that had a power supply similar
to the original and it was simple enough to make the swap. I'm
still on the lookout for an original II power supply, but this one is
a fine stand in. I noticed one website highlighting an early
Apple II, that that power supply has a toggle switch instead of a rocker
switch, but I don't remember having a toggle switch on my machine. Anyone
have any thoughts on what switch was on power supplies for machines in the
2000-3000 serial number range? The power supply on the bottom has the
appearance of the original.
Update 5/27/2007
At this point I'm pretty sure that my low serial number Apple probably
had a A2M001 power supply. I found a low serial number
(<3000), II plus on ebay with some issues and a M2M001 power supply.
However one of the issues with the machines is a bad switch
on the power supply. I've just ordered a replacement switch, as
the the original manufacturer is still in business still has a switch
in their current lineup that appears to be a near exact replacement.
Once I get the switch in, I'll install it into the power supply
and update this page. Note that these early power supplies are
held with screws and a couple of rivets. In order to get the bad
switch out, it is necessary to drill out the rivets. Fortunately
I have a pop rivet gun. I will be able to restore the power
supply to original condition with a couple of 1/8" rivets, once I
recieve the new switch.
