Peter Miller is in process of building a reproduction SCELBI 8B and came up with good solutions for the chassis and front panel. Be aware that the following files are ONLY for the SCELBI 8B. The SCELBI 8H had slightly different backplane dimensions and the front panel lettering is different.
The front panel was purchased from Front Panel Express using this design file. Unlike the original chassis, David choose to get the lettering engraved.
The chassis was fabricated by protocase using this design file. Note that some additional drilling will be required to complete this chassis.
Thank you for sharing this! I hope it’s helpful for others. I would like to add a couple of notes:
For the front panel, this is based off the design file Mike provided me. My additions to it are the engraved lettering since Front Panel Express has that as an option. If you’d like a more original look, you could convert this to screen-print which they also do. As well, I did adjust some letter spacing, particularly near “RUN | STATUS STOP,” to make it more even than the originals.
For the chassis, the construction is slightly different than the BUD case from what I can tell, but not significantly. As Mike alluded to, I did not include the holes to mount the backplane, nor did I include the full cutouts for I/O. I did include pilot holes for them. Someone could improve upon this case design by adding those if they felt confident enough. Protocase requires a “lid” which I ended up putting feet on giving it a removable bottom cover. Without that cover, it sits just like the originals.
Overall, I’m beyond happy with the results! I think it looks absolutely amazing, and I can’t wait to get it running!
